In a bid to create equal opportunities for the LGBTQIA+ community and promote inclusive workplaces, Uber has recently participated in India’s largest inclusive job fair, Reimagining Inclusion for Social Equity (RISE), organised by consultancy Pride Circle.
Uber had a recruitment kiosk where volunteers helped participants apply for different technical and non-technical roles. This is the second edition of RISE, and Uber’s participation highlights the company's commitment to opening doors for the underrepresented communities.
Speaking at the RISE Job Fair, Pavan Vaish, Head of Central Operations, Uber India and South Asia said, “At Uber, we believe by encouraging employees to bring their authentic self to work, we can build the highest performing diverse workforce in the industry. Pride comes in all colours and our participation in RISE is an important step towards building a workplace in which LGBTQIA+ individuals feel welcome and supported to be the best they can be.”
Uber will also aim to educate people about the diversity prevalent in the community through a digital campaign ‘Pride comes in all colours,’ highlighting different communities, flags, sexual orientations, and gender identities that represent some of the colours across the LGBTQIA+ community.
Over the years, Uber has been striving to bolster diversity and inclusion at the workplace, and has continued to work towards equality for the LGBTQIA+ community. For the past four years, Uber has consistently earned a top score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index, and was deemed one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality.” Uber has also formed a first-ever Diversity Advisory Council, which functions as a recommending body to help address diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives in the company.
